We all know that feeding our dogs chocolate can be toxic….but did you know there are other common “people foods” that can be deadly to your pet? In today’s post, I am going to go over a few foods that can be toxic to your pet.

I have to admit, I am a sucker for a sweet face, and when a dog is begging, looking at you with those puppy dog eyes, it is incredibly hard to say no. It’s not a bad thing to let your pet try people food every once in awhile, but you need to be aware of the dangers in certain foods. Some foods are better left for you to enjoy, and many others can be shared with your pet. It is good to keep in mind that too many treats may cause your pet to become overweight, so make sure you are giving your pet treats sparingly.

So you want to go on vacation but don’t want to leave poor Fido in doggie-daycare and poor Fluffy at the kitty-inn… And who could blame you? Pets are part of the family so why shouldn’t they get to come on vacation, too?Whether you’re looking to take your pet on “vacay” or you’re moving and need to travel with pets, there are plenty of options out there for pet-friendly travel, transportation and pet-friendly hotels.

** First and foremost, before you leave make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel. Sometimes your vet may recommend he/she is not fit for travel based on age, temperament, health conditions, etc. Also be sure your pet has been properly vaccinated and is up-to-date on all other shots.**

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week. This week’s wonderful pet blog is a dog blog. It’s called A Dog’s Life, the Real Story.

Our Golden Retriever friend Mogley is the author/blogger over there. Mogley sure is a lucky dog. He gets to have foster brothers and sisters to play with all the time because his humans are such wonderful people. They are so wonderful that they take in foster Golden Retrievers from Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (funny that the acronym is “GRRR!” BOL!)

I LOVE this day! It’s time for the Cutest Kitty! This picture is of maybe the most adorable Ragdoll cat I have ever seen. (I’ve always wanted Ragdoll cats but for some reason they don’t end up in shelters - which is where my animals come from.)

Anyhow, I bet this pretty little kitty is wondering if she can get these in her size…

A shelter in Marion, IN will be closing it’s doors on or around the end of June. Any animals remaining at the shelter on the day they close, will be euthanized. This is an absolute tragedy and we should not stand for it.

I am encouraging all my readers to look at this link (also located at the bottom of this post), check out the biographies of the pets available there. Maybe you know someone who has been looking for the right dog - this is the perfect opportunity!!

Our father always takes us to get shaved for the summertime since our fur is so long and we prefer to spend summer days lounging around outside chewing sticks. We Golden Retrievers are known for our rich long fur so its always nice to be “naked” for the summer. Our Mother calls us “naked dogs” when we are shaved and we’re totally fine with that.

Here is me laying in my favorite position, the “froggy dog” position (as my sister so eloquently calls it):

Dog owners often run into the same issues and I can relate to them from experience. I have fallen for the same tricks when Kensho played them on me.

Question from a desperate dog owner:

“My 7 month old pup is more than picky when it comes to her food! She just doesn’t LIKE any of it, so she won’t eat very much. I’m to the point where I think if she’s hungry enough she will eat it!

I started with Nutro Lamb & Rice, she won’t eat that anymore, then changed to Chicken Soup… it gave her the runs… then to Canidae Chicken & Rice.. she wouldn’t eat it… now I have California Natural Lamb & Rice, which she will only eat if I mix in a little canned food (and even then she will only pick around and eat the canned food). It also gave her runny poop today.

The moment you decide to own a Dalmatian puppy, you need to start planning for his arrival in your home. Both you and your new family member will find the transition period much easier if your home is properly equip in advance of the arrival.

One of the first thing you need to prepare for the arrival of your new Dalmatian puppy is a crate. Every dog should have a crate of his own from the very beginning, one that he will come to know and love as his special place where he is comfortable and safe. The crate will provide an ideal setting; when you want him to be free, you can just leave the crate open. Otherwise, you can securely latch it and know that the pup is safely out of trouble. Also, if you travel with him, his crate can fit nicely in the car. A crate therefore is a very sensible and sound investment in your puppy’s future safety and happiness and for your own peace of mind.
