The Welsh Terrier has a sturdy, athletic medium-sized body with a docked tail and a short, wiry, and low-maintenance coat. His appearance is similar to the Airedale and also shares common characteristics with the Irish and Lakeland Terriers. He is bold, spirited, affectionate, obedient, and gets along well with children. With his handy size, fun attitude, and good temperament, he makes a wonderful household pet.

As a puppy, this breed is sensitive to overbearing or rushed training methods. He is reserved around strangers, tends to be dog-aggressive, and has a high prey drive. As a youngster, he can be timid and requires lots of confidence-building and positive reinforcement. Because he can be stubborn, he needs precise and persistent guidance. He is a little slow in processing information and may get confused if pushed too fast.

During an emergency or an accident, you can reduce your dog’s immediate pain and discomfort or even save his life with prompt, immediate action. You need to always be prepared for such accidents and emergencies such as burns, seizures, and gastric torsion.

Scalds and burns: Your dog’s coat provides warmth and protection to his skin, but hot oil, hot water, and irritating chemicals can seep through the hair and cause skin damage. Most burns are caused by boiling water or oil. To treat a minor burn, apply cold water immediately to the affected area and then follow it with an icepack. When the affected area has been cooled, apply an antiseptic skin cream. Try to keep the wound clean and then call the vet for further instructions. Do not apply ointment to serious burns and take your dog to the vet immediately.

Pets need the food they are biologically adapted to. It’s a matter of context. Just as a fish needs to be in water to stay healthy, a pet needs its natural food milieu to be healthy. All creatures must stay true to their design. What could be more obvious or simple? For a carnivore the correct genetic match is prey, carrion and incidental fresh plant material, and even some fur and feathers, as well as the occasional surprise of unmentionables found in decaying matter. It’s not a pretty picture to think that “FiFi” with her pink bow and polished toenails would stoop to such fare, but that is precisely the food she is designed to eat. Since that is her design, matching food to that design (minus the more disgusting and unnecessary elements) is also the key to her health.
