Looking to rescue a pet? Want to save one from a dog or cat shelter? Of course you can adopt from any animal shelter (including Humane Societies, local animal shelters, no kill animal shelters, or smaller, local rescue groups), but pet ownership starts with a good evalutation of the place where you get your new cuddler. A good animal shelter should have the best interest of the pets in mind, and should imbue friendliness and warmth in spirit. Take a look at these requirements:

Proper Use of Dog Treats
If you are a dog owner, your dog is likely one of the most important beings in your life. To reward it, you probably provided it with Dog Treats almost regularly. But different Dog Treats are good for different situations. Rewarding your dog with the best treat for the situation is a good way to keep your dog alert and satisfied.
Training
When training your dog, the best kinds of treats are small, easy to chew treats that your dog can swallow quickly. There is a lot of behavioral evidence to suggest that it does not matter how large a treat is, a reward for learning a trick is a reward. So there is no reason to fill your dog up on treats too quickly, since the size of the treat does not matter when it comes to how well a dog will learn a trick.

Which Health Plans Offer Pet Health Insurance
When pet owners purchase a pet they shop around at the various pet shops, breeders, pet rescues, and animal shelters until they find the dog, cat, or exotic pet that suits them, what very few pet owners do is consider the cost of veterinarian cost for their new pet. The oversight can prove financially devastating and emotionally heartbreaking.
The cost of veterinary cost is on the rise. Technology, liability insurance, medications, and medical research have forced veterinary clinics to raise their cost. Veterinary clinics in rural areas of the country (especially ones that combine their small animal practice with a large animal practice) find it difficult to attract young vets who are graduating from vet school to their clinics; they are forced to offer higher salaries in order to compete with clinics located closer to major cities. The increase in the payroll is then transferred to pet owners.

It’s time for another round of the Pet Product of the Week (aka Pet Photo Fun!). There are all kinds of things you can create with your favorite pet photos. Pet lovers gifts, after all, are most effective when they feature the best moments of your best buddy!
This new pet lover gift I found is an address book with your favorite pet photos on the front. This company creates the address book for you after you upload your photos, and there are multiple layouts to choose from. This is such a good idea!

It’s the end of summer and you are preparing for fall. School maybe in for some of you, others might be preparing their kids for a fall term. Getting your kids ready for school can be a tedious and time consuming affair. During these times, you must remember not to forget your other family member, your dog.
Your dog feels the tension in your household and reacts in different ways. He might start doing things that are not normal like ,chewing the couch, playing with shoes, particularly the kids shoes, dirtying in the house. It’s important to remember that he his feeling anxiety too and this especially goes fo puppies.

Dogs, like all of us, need a haven to turn to, when they need to rest or sleep or simply to idle away their time. And for their comfort, we do need to buy or make a dog house.
Making a dog house can be a tedious job, especially for those who have practically no experience or skill at carpentry. Dog houses can either be made from scratch by buying required materials and tools, or assembled together by buying dog house kits, which include all materials as well as instructions for assembling them into a dog house. Spirit Elements, House of Hammocks, Scott’s Dog Supply, Inc, KITGUY, and seeFido are some companies that sell dog house kits. Insulation and shipping costs are usually extra. Kits cost anywhere from $99 to $600.

I got an email from Jenn of Cutie-Paws. She is doing some amazing work, not to mention making some really great stuffed plushes. With each handmade animal, 60% of the sale goes towards AnimalAsia China Bear Rescue. The following is a guest post from Jenn:
Why I’m doing what I’m doing:
Bear bile is used as a Traditional Medicine in China. The Bears are trapped in the wild via snares, which can often sever the bears’ limbs, and then kept in cages that are roughly the size of the bears themselves. Once trapped on the farm, the bears are “milked” for their bile through painful catheters that are up to 7 inches in length and are directly inserted into their gall bladders.

We have all done it. Our cute, little furry friend is practically smiling at us from beneath the kitchen table. The ears are perked and the tail is wagging. We know what our dog is after. Just a tiny tidbit from dinner would be delightful, right? What could it hurt? It is just a bite or two after all.
Hold Fido’s ears he won’t want to hear this. A dog’s diet really should not contain table scraps. People food is just that…for people. A dog’s nutritional needs are not the same as a human’s. Sure, we eat some of the same things, but feeding your pet from the table is one of the biggest mistakes for your pet. A dog’s diet doesn’t require all the added goodies we put into our meals.

Del Monte Do Something Good For You! Grant is awarding a young winner $2,500 to promote healthy living, including dog related programs. I think that it would be awesome if the grant went to someone who thought of a way to include dogs as part of their get healthy idea. More details:
Do Something and Del Monte Foods are encouraging anyone under age 26 with an idea or program that promotes healthy living in their school or community to submit their projects for a chance to win the $2,500 Del Monte Do Something Good For You!
