Almost a week ago a local Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi attempted to take a mentally ill subject into custody for his well being. Unfortunately, he struggled with the deputies and fled on foot into a large wooded area. The deputies were concerned for his welfare and knew that they needed to locate the individual.

Puppies are super cute and so much fun to have around. They are filled with energy and curious about everything around them. It is your job as a responsible pet owner to puppy proof your house to make it safe from them and to protect your belongings.

The first thing you should do when puppy proofing your house is to go room to room on your hands and knees. Look at the things in your home from your puppy’s perspective. Think about what is at that level that may be interesting to him. You may be surprised to find many things that are potentially dangerous that you never even thought of before.

You’ve probably heard about omega-3 fatty acids. These are abundantly present in fish oil and are highly marketed as essential supplement to your food or your dog’s food for that matter.

Omega-3 fatty acids are added to just about every human food and the year 2007 may get labelled omega-3 fatty acid year for that matter. And as dog food follows many similar marketing trends to human foods we are seeing more food labels with omega-3 and nutritional support claims than before. It’s like a miracle ingredient. Seems to be good for everything if you belief the colorful statements.

We have a bird and a rat. The rat has been part of our family for a little over a month now. We have tried to introduce the bird and the rat to each other, and they tolerate each other. However, it turns out that our bird is very territorial. We always suspected this about her, since she loves to yell if you mess with her stuff.

One of the things we were hoping for is that they would keep each other entertained in the day time when we are gone. And while the bird does enjoy watching the rat run around, she really only tolerates it for a time, then she starts getting loud.

According to API, the FDA is investigating a Texas laboratory’s finding of acetaminophen in dog and cat food. At least five dog and cat food samples submitted by worried pet owners and pet food manufacturers contained varying levels of the pain reliever.

Here is a video of my wife Lianne recently achieving a perfect score of 100 in a Rally competition. Dogs are different on any given day, and all you can do is to try to be as close to perfect on a daily basis, and do that as consistently as you can. Obviously, she is not going to get a perfect score the rest of the times out, but that is proof enough that even though there will be more training in the dog a year from now, everything has to go right on a given day.

Posing with my Parents

Never an animal lover nor someone who enjoyed having her picture taken, the opportunity couldn’t be missed when Corona sat in front of my mother. Not objecting to having her picture taken I took several pictures but our dog didn’t want to comply.

I’m back! Some of my friends were wondering what happened to me because my blog went missing for a little bit. The company who hosts all our company sites moved to a bigger building and all the servers were down for a few days. That meant no e-mail or blogs for a few days. Everything seems back to normal now.

A lot has happened since I’ve been gone. First, both Chloe and Sunny found their furever homes! I sure am happy for them!

Just as with humans, one of the biggest health problems today for dogs is obesity. Many owners think their pudgy dogs are adorable, when in fact they are extremely unhealthy. Overweight dogs can develop the same kinds of problems that overweight humans can, such as diabetes mellitus, which can be very tricky to treat. Obesity can also reduce your dog’s life expectancy.

If you are not sure if your dog is overweight, there is a very easy way to do so visually and by touch. A dog of normal weight should have an indentation at his waistline, and his ribs should be easily felt under his skin. An overweight dog will not have a waistline and there will be a thicker layer of fat over his ribs.
