Vegetables: While a few vegetables may serve as natural vitamin sources, most vegetables have little value to a dog. Dogs can only digest about 30 to 50 percent of most of the vegetables eaten by man. Many of these vegetables are practically all water. What roughage they may contain can just as easily be obtained from cereal grains. Vegetables contain too little fat to be of any value as energy sources. Any plant protein they contain is likely to be of low biological value to a dog.

A lot of dogs like go on adventures, which makes travel attractive for them. This is their natural hunting instincts making them want to meet new people and explore new places. However, it may pose as a problem since taking a dog along during your travels may be inconvenient. Quite a few people are frightened of dogs and the mess that dogs make while you’re traveling can be very troublesome. It should also be noted that many lodgings and transportation services don’t cater to pets such as dogs and cats.

Today I received the following dog food question from a UK dog lover via the Best Dog Food Guide - Contact Form.
“I feed my 8 week year old puppy chicken breast and vegetables with olive oil. Could you give me some tips of how much to feed him and what else to feed him? He is a Doberman, thanks.”
Below you’ll find the answer I gave him.
My STRONG advice to you is please feed your puppy a commercial dog food! If you insist on cooking for your dog then at least wait until he is full grown.

Our very good friend, Everett Police K-9 handler Suzanne Eviston and her K9 Axle are pictured here still alive and well. Suzanne was t-boned by a Burglary suspect who was fleeing the scene of a crime high on Meth. The suspect had been granted “drug court” which enables him to be in the community instead of serving time for his other numerous crimes, so he was very motivated not to be apprehended.

The squirrels have been extra busy this week…lots of activity. I spend my mornings watching them. I think they are getting ready for winter. Silly squirrels, it doesn’t get very cold in Los Angeles! They spend the whole day running back and forth across the telephone wire collecting nuts.

This is an important and serious condition (pus in the womb) in which the uterus is infected. Although it is usually confined to maiden bitches of 6 years of age or more, it is occasionally seen in young bitches as a result of infection acquired at the time of whelping or contracted from the stud dog. When a bitch is not bred from, the uterine tissues begin to deteriorate in the course of time, and this makes them more likely to become infected with harmful bacteria. In the case of young bitches accidentally infected after mating or whelping there is no degeneration of the uterine tissues, but infection occurs from outside, usually with the commoner groups of micro-organisms. All bitches should have at least one litter, which will, to a large extent, prevent this dangerous condition. There are two types of pyometra, open and closed, the latter being far more acute. The symptoms vary, but fever is always present (from 103F. upwards); there is loss of appetite, vaginal discharge (in the open type) of a brownish or pinkish colour and, as the condition becomes worse, great thirst, frequent vomiting and finally prostration. If untreated, a toxaemia quickly sets in. In the closed type, which can rapidly prove fatal, the symptoms are more acute, the fever is usually greater, there is no discharge and as the pus cannot escape, it is pent up within the uterus, there is considerable abdominal enlargement and the abdomen feels hard and is painful to the touch. A case of pyometra may begin as an open type and end as a closed, or vice versa.

We have recently experienced a rash of clients that have experienced problems with their dogs and have sought our assistance after working with other trainers. The issues that they initially had with their dogs was dominance, inattentiveness and otherwise unruly behavior. Again, they worked for some time with another company and followed the recommendations of their trainers. The clients explain to us that they were told by these trainers to growl in thier dogs face when it was necessary to get their attention, stop their unwanted behavior and to be the “pack leader”. They stated that it was explained to them that by growling in the dog’s face, the dog would quickly understand that they were in charge and that this would mimic a pack leader controlling them. Unfortunately, they were bitten in the face (and other places) while growling at the dog.
