Lori Lebda and Tami Bergeson have hit the nail on the head (in my case anyways) with What Dog Are You? Discovering Your Inner Pooch. This book, fresh from the printing press, lets the reader explore his/her traits, abilities and personality and associate them with a breed of dog.

Based on three quizzes, the “Pooch-onality,” Dapper Dogs,” and “Biscuits or Bones,” a number value is assigned to you. Each quiz results in a specific breed type and those three are your “puppy genetic makeup.”

I don’t know how my husband stands to have Corona so close to his nose as her breath stinks and always has! This Dogo Argentino is often seen kissing Paul’s face or licking his ears and he just grins and bears it. I, on the other hand, would prefer not to be anywhere close to any dog’s tongue.

And here we have our cousin, Brian, who doesn’t mind the closeness to Corona at all.

Quickie Guide To House Training Your Dog

Dogs need to be trained properly in order to know when and where it’s acceptable to go to the bathroom. As with any type of dog training, you must be consistent. Dogs learn by routine. Change the routine and you’ll confuse your dog. A confused dog will likely have an accident. First, understand that dogs don’t instinctively know where to urinate or defecate. They need to be taught. Below, you’ll learn how to house train your dog so it will never be confused about where to “go” again.

Most Pet owners assume that just because a dog toy was purchased from a pet store, it is automatically safe for their dog. But this is not the case, as several toys are made for dogs of certain sizes and with certain play/chewing styles, and some toys can be dangerous for dogs if they are not properly supervised.

Large dogs or dogs that chew aggressively both have very specific needs when it comes to dog toys. Large dogs should always be given toys that are made for large dogs, because the smaller toys could become choking hazards.

No, Corona didn’t pass, thank goodness but we, as pet owners, know we do have to consider what happens when she does and then live like she never will.

Every pet owner and even potential pet owner does have to consider the effects on the family due to the loss of a beloved pet. The aspect has to be dealt with but its sudden impact is dependent on how the family prepares for it.

Military dogs are dogs that are used to complement the various tasks that are needed to carry out a military operations. To some, this may seem to be contrary to humanitarian principles. But I look at it like this - This is how dogs first evolved - as a companion in hunting, and in fact, gun dogs like the Hungarian Vizsla are in use by even non military personnel.

Thanks to the United States Humane Society and Mary O’Connor Shaver from Columbus Top Dogs for this information.

The U.S. Senate at the end of last week followed the lead of the House of Representatives and overrode President Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill, ushering in key new protections for animals.

The final bill (which is now considered law) - except for one section excluded due to a technical glitch - bans the import of puppies from foreign puppy mills for commercial sale in the U.S. The law spares young, unweaned and unvaccinated pups from harsh, long-distance transport during which they are exposted to extreme temperatures and often die in cargo holds — and will keep foreigh breeders from the tragic overpopulation of pets in this country.

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week. This week’s Pet Blog of the Week is Lab Tails.

Lab Tails is about the lives of FIVE Labrador Retrievers: Ridge, Pinot, Elsie, Baxter and Kenya. They are all great friends and seem to have so much fun playing together, sharing sticks and toys, cuddling on the dog hammock, etc.
