I am writing the aritcle I found in the Dog Fancy Magazine that goes into a little more detail about our STAR puppy class.

The American Kennel Club has added the STAR Puppy level to its canine Good Citizen program. This rewards owners whose puppies have completed at least a six-week basic training class. STAR stands for socialization, training, activity, and a responsible owner. Practically everything a puppy and their woners need. The program is open to purebred and mixed breed dogs up to 1 year.

From time to time we get officers who worry about how tough their dual purpose police canine appears to others. For those who are not familiar with the term dual purpose it refers to the amount of training a police dog recieves and includes bite work. You can have a police dog that is social but also turns it on and gets down to business when the time is right. Which in my opionion is the best formula for police work, since you are not always dealing with the bad guy, there are victims too.
