Each Tuesday we will share a photo we received claiming to be the World's Largest Dog. A lot of you might have seen these photos. We couldn't verify the source so we leave it up to you to believe it or not. Photoshop can make look anything big. Let us know what you think. Have you seen any of these dogs in person? Do you have a photo that you want to share with us?
4) The Largest Irish Wolfhound:
This week our featured Largest Dog in the world is an Irish Wolfhound. Guess what?! I am sure this photo is not fake and shows the actual size of the dog. Although, I must admit that the photographer did a very good job to make it look bigger than it is. There is one thing we cannot be sure though! Is it really the largest dog in the world??? Hard to tell... probably not but it does look huge!

3) The Largest Neapolitan Mastiff:
This is a Neapolitan Mastiff. Without any doubt, this is the worst fake World's Largest Dog Photo I have ever seen. While Neapolitan Mastiff is indeed a large breed and can weight over 200 pounds, they don't grow this big... or if they would they could not walk.

2) The Largest Boerboel:
This South African Beast looks huge indeed. I am only guessing it is a Boerboel and I am also guessing... it is fake too! Males are 25-28 inches (64-70 cm.). Females are 23-25.5 inches (59-65 cm.). They are known to have huge heads... but this one or enormous!

1) The Largest Great Dane:
It is a harlequin Great Dane. According to the breed standard Great Danes' shoulder height is between 71-86cm or 28-34 inch. While they are huge and can easily be as high as the woman in the photo, it looks fake. The hind legs are way too long, longer than the back line.

I will be leaving this afternoon to conduct three seminars in Brasil. The first dog training seminar will cover training for police patrol and protection. We will be covering drives and teaching skills such as, the out, recall and proper decoy techniques. The second seminar will cover advanced Search and Rescue Dog Training and will be a follow-up to the seminar the we taught last year. In this Search and Rescue Seminar, we will be teaching advanced techniques for S&R dogs and handlers. We are even planning rapelling with the dogs. The third and final seminar will be a three-day Police K-9 and SWAT applications course for the Brazilian Military. These seminars should be doth interesting and exciting and I am excited about being a part of them. We will have updates, photos and video form the seminar on the website soon, so check back often.

We recently trained a German Shepherd named “Apollo” for a client in Huntersville, NC. Apollo attended our three week advanced training course to teach him off-leash obedience and to also instill some manners. We enjoy getting updates and emails from dog owners and we thought that we would share this one with you.
Hi Erin and Jason!
Just wanted to give you a follow up on Apollo. He has been home now for almost four weeks and boy have things changed around here! Prior to coming to your boot camp, we had to deal with the relationship between him and our Australian shepherd, our two cats, and of course the whole family. Now, we can get moments like this because everyone is relaxed around each other AND our little female cat who hid from him for the first three weeks he came to us, now rolls on her back under his nose and bops him on the nose if he is behaving inappropriately!

The past few decades have seen a period of continuing advances in the art and science of veterinary surgery. Even the last few years have seen advances of outstanding value. In the field of surgery, operations are carried out today which a few years ago could not have been contemplated. Operations into the chest cavity or intra-thoracic surgery involving such vital organs as the gullet and lungs are now accessible to the surgeon’s skill. The “pinning” of bones, where the old-fashioned and cumbersome splint has gone by the board, has resulted in finer and more rapid repair, with far less pain and discomfort to the patient. Prostatectomy, or removal of the prostate gland which causes so much trouble in the older male dog, has now become a possibility and is one of the most recent conditions to come within the scope of the surgeon.

A big part of this blog is promoting animal welfare, by spreading the word for rescue groups, wildlife groups, and other animal lovers. So if you are part of an animal welfare group, send me your events and rescue stories to help spread the word. I am happy to pass this information on in the effort to promote animal welfare, and it also helps your website gain exposure.
Another thing that I am happy to do is to help promote companies that make great products for pets and pet parents. Every now and then you may see a product or website review on this blog, hopefully you will find them helpful. If you are a company that would like to have a product featured here, please contact me for details on how that works.

We recently had the pleasure of training a German Shepherd named Apollo for a client in Charlotte, North Carolina. Apollo came to us with the usual issues, jumping, pulling, etc. nothing out of the ordinary. After three weeks at our facility, Apollo was a changed dog. He had learned to heel, sit, down, stay, come and place, all off-leash. Below is a excerpt from an email that his owner sent us a few days later.
Hi you guys!
Thanks for touching base back. Thanks again for everything you did for Apollo. He was great on his walk this morning (no leash) and I also took him to a 4 year old outdoor birthday party and he was a perfect gentleman. Someone asked me yesterday if I thought it was worth the money for his training. Here is my thought process and explanation to them.

Every year the American Kennel Club comes out with a list of the Most Popular Purebred Dogs (based on 50 major U.S. cities). It’s funny to me how the breeds in here run the gamut, but I wonder why so many of the breeds that I know and love get left out.
The big headline this year was that, bringing up the rear end at Number 10, the Bulldog once again made the Top Ten list (after a 75-year abscence). As usual the Labrador Retriever topped the list followed by the Yorkshire Terrier, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Beagle and Boxer.
