Dog Training - Training Rescued Dogs
Normal dog training requires patience that is greater nowhere else but childrearing. Training rescued dogs takes even more.
Though sterilizing dogs - spaying (removing female organs) and neutering (removing male organs) - has been common practice for decades, birth rates continue to outpace ownership. Add to that a percentage who are lost or wander away and the problem grows larger.
The inevitable result is a large number of dogs who often end in facilities where they’re either adopted or terminated.

We have recommended on numerous occasions for people to take up tracking with their dog, just as a hobby. Many pet owners believe in order to perform tracking with their dogs they must be bloodhounds, shepherds, or labs. But that is not always the case, especially if you just want to track for fun, nothing serious and hopefully involve the entire family. Yes, their are many dog owners out there that get into tracking on a much more serious note, and are involved in search and rescue groups, clubs, organizations, sport trials, or AKC tracking. This is a wonderful thing but some dog owners just want an outlet for their dogs energy! Tracking is an awesome way to achieve that, you not only are getting them exercise, they are also using their brains!

Dogs, like humans, show a wide range of tolerance for others. Some are immediately friendly with every new dog, cat or lizard. Others are forever hostile to even the opposite sex of their own breed. Considering dogs are by nature territorial the diversity is odd, but there it is.
Naturally, animal lovers like to have more than one dog around and often several breeds or other species. Ensuring that chairs remain upright and necks unbitten can be a real challenge. Add to the mix the neighbor’s pets or random critters who wander into your companion’s territory and your furniture, not to mention your sanity, can be at real risk.

Beef flavored chunks are available in addition to the beef flavored tablets or solutions that can be given orally to the dogs as a measure against the incidence of heart worms. Avoid mosquito bites by providing proper mosquito-proof shelter facilities to the dogs.
Just plan whether there is any need to go for the heart worm prevention though out the year or only in some months of the year. For example, in case of some countries, the mosquitoes may be dormant in most of the colder months.

I recently had an opportunity to conduct a protection and decoy seminar in Jundiai, SP, Brasil. The seminar was for Police, Military and civilian handlers and dog trainers. The seminar was a huge success and everyone had a great time. The culture amongst the Brasilians is quite different from that typically seen here in the US. Below are a couple of articles that appeared in the Jornal de Jundiai. The translated version of each article is listed below it.

One of my blog readers, Eva, has a wonderful site alilsumptinsumptin that features her original handmade jewelry. Recently she made a necklace dedicated in memory of Ben & Jerry. My human mom has admired Eva’s work for some time and couldn’t resist the beautiful necklace which also would carry a lot of sentimental value for us. Even better, 100% of the proceeds are being donated to rescue through Eva’s PAWS FOR A GOOD CAUSE, which she started In honor of her two golden retrievers, who were both shelter dogs. The necklace came right away in the mail and was very nicely packed with a dog theme.

We recently received a group of poodle mix boys from the Iredell County Humane Society to take the challenge of rehabilitating them. Paul, Ringo, John, and George were living in a 1010 ft. dog lot with no human contact for the first year and half of their life. They had food, shelter and water but that is about all. One of the poodles was tolerable but the other three came to us and believe me, they taught us a lot about fear of the unknown.
