Dogs love to be touched, and there are several sweet spots that you can tickle and rub to make your dog happy. You will know you're succeeding by certain signs like a deep grunt at the back of his or her throat, or constant licking of the lips. They will also come and rub their head against you for more.
Hold the head in your hands gently, and using your thumb and forefinger, caress the ears, and stretch them out gently. Or you can use your left hand to hold the snout, and with your right palm, run it over the length of the nose.

Most Pet owners assume that just because a dog toy was purchased from a pet store, it is automatically safe for their dog. But this is not the case, as several toys are made for dogs of certain sizes and with certain play/chewing styles, and some toys can be dangerous for dogs if they are not properly supervised.
Large dogs or dogs that chew aggressively both have very specific needs when it comes to dog toys. Large dogs should always be given toys that are made for large dogs, because the smaller toys could become choking hazards.

Thanks to the United States Humane Society and Mary O’Connor Shaver from Columbus Top Dogs for this information.
The U.S. Senate at the end of last week followed the lead of the House of Representatives and overrode President Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill, ushering in key new protections for animals.
The final bill (which is now considered law) - except for one section excluded due to a technical glitch - bans the import of puppies from foreign puppy mills for commercial sale in the U.S. The law spares young, unweaned and unvaccinated pups from harsh, long-distance transport during which they are exposted to extreme temperatures and often die in cargo holds — and will keep foreigh breeders from the tragic overpopulation of pets in this country.

It’s that time of year again, where you could take your wonderful pet to work and show off the love of your life! I received my notice from Pet Sitter’s International where they have selected June 20th for the official date to take your dog to work. Your participation in this event could make a huge difference in saving a dog’s life that is in desperate need of a forever home. The preventing sponsor of this event is Comfort Zone, you can visit them at www.petcomfortzone.com for more information.

So you want to go on vacation but don’t want to leave poor Fido in doggie-daycare and poor Fluffy at the kitty-inn… And who could blame you? Pets are part of the family so why shouldn’t they get to come on vacation, too?Whether you’re looking to take your pet on “vacay†or you’re moving and need to travel with pets, there are plenty of options out there for pet-friendly travel, transportation and pet-friendly hotels.
** First and foremost, before you leave make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel. Sometimes your vet may recommend he/she is not fit for travel based on age, temperament, health conditions, etc. Also be sure your pet has been properly vaccinated and is up-to-date on all other shots.**

For the sake of keeping us all together and making new friends in the pet blogosphere I have started talking about my favorite pet blogs once a week. This week’s wonderful pet blog is a dog blog. It’s called A Dog’s Life, the Real Story.
Our Golden Retriever friend Mogley is the author/blogger over there. Mogley sure is a lucky dog. He gets to have foster brothers and sisters to play with all the time because his humans are such wonderful people. They are so wonderful that they take in foster Golden Retrievers from Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (funny that the acronym is “GRRR!” BOL!)

I LOVE this day! It’s time for the Cutest Kitty! This picture is of maybe the most adorable Ragdoll cat I have ever seen. (I’ve always wanted Ragdoll cats but for some reason they don’t end up in shelters - which is where my animals come from.)
Anyhow, I bet this pretty little kitty is wondering if she can get these in her size…

Dog owners often run into the same issues and I can relate to them from experience. I have fallen for the same tricks when Kensho played them on me.
Question from a desperate dog owner:
“My 7 month old pup is more than picky when it comes to her food! She just doesn’t LIKE any of it, so she won’t eat very much. I’m to the point where I think if she’s hungry enough she will eat it!
I started with Nutro Lamb & Rice, she won’t eat that anymore, then changed to Chicken Soup… it gave her the runs… then to Canidae Chicken & Rice.. she wouldn’t eat it… now I have California Natural Lamb & Rice, which she will only eat if I mix in a little canned food (and even then she will only pick around and eat the canned food). It also gave her runny poop today.

The past few decades have seen a period of continuing advances in the art and science of veterinary surgery. Even the last few years have seen advances of outstanding value. In the field of surgery, operations are carried out today which a few years ago could not have been contemplated. Operations into the chest cavity or intra-thoracic surgery involving such vital organs as the gullet and lungs are now accessible to the surgeon’s skill. The “pinning” of bones, where the old-fashioned and cumbersome splint has gone by the board, has resulted in finer and more rapid repair, with far less pain and discomfort to the patient. Prostatectomy, or removal of the prostate gland which causes so much trouble in the older male dog, has now become a possibility and is one of the most recent conditions to come within the scope of the surgeon.
