I was very lazy today. The best part was when I hung out with my HD in the backyard. We’re best buddies. We kept an eye on all the birds and squirrel activity.

Lazy Day.

The sun felt so good that I decided to just flop over on HD’s lap. That turned out to be a good idea because I got a massage. A little to the left please….

I was sunning myself in the backyard when I spotted a bird sneaking around on the lawn. I decided to go investigate what he was up to.

Wildlife.

He was hunting a praying mantis! I scared the bird off and took a good look at the mantis. Can you see him looking back at me? My HD was holding my collar so I didn’t get my nose bit.

Dog Training - Tips for Selecting Game Dogs

Proper training begins even before the pup is born. While it’s not always possible to buy a pup from champions, selecting the proper breed and temperament is essential.

Choosing a pup starts with choosing the dam and sire, whenever possible. The pup’s parents should be active, alert and amenable to training and preferably gaming dogs themselves.

But even the best of parents have offspring that differ in personality. Some pups simply don’t have the interest or temperament to be working dogs. No amount of training can overcome that limitation.

“Scooby” is one of our very famous dogs in the whole Sit Means Sit dog training organization. Not only do a lot of our graduates hear stories about Scooby before they even get out of our dog trainers school, but everyone loves stories about Labrador Retrievers. Now Scooby is even more famous by being in a country music video by the group Crossin Dixon ! Their new song ‘I love my old bird dog’, has Scooby (he’s the yellow lab, not the singers :-), in some of the scenes in their music video. You can see the video by going to this blog that is about car racing, and scrolling down to see the video called “I love my old bird dog”. You can find the link HERE. Scooby is owned by Carla Collins from our Dallas Texas Location. Scooby is also a certified FEMA dog, and past both of his difficult tests on the first try! Carla Collins also travels a good bit of the country doing Sit Means Sit dog training seminars on a variety of things. Keep an eye on our seminars/events page, to see when Carla and Scooby come to your town!

This week, May 4-10 is the American Humane Association’s Be Kind to Animals Week! The group created this celebratory week in 1915 to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals.

Though we all love our fur-babies, there are some special things we can do this week to work towards a better future for all animals, everywhere.

So how can you be kind to animals this week? The AHA recommends the following:

Speak out for animals. Get active in local animal welfare policies and legislation.

What A Life.

I’m so happy! It seems like spring has come to LA…the birds are nesting and the sun is hot. It’s been a very busy time for me and the humans too. Work at the studio is very busy and the humans have started a thing called renovation in one of the bathrooms….it involves lots of banging and things moving about…I just stay out of their way! When I get time I love to lounge around in the cool grass.

My Domain.

As you’ve probably guessed, I pretty much live like a king…good food, lots of attention and a big domain to rule over. And even though I go on lots of adventures, there’s nothing like home…laying in the grass, listening to the fountain and watching over my domain. That’s what days off are for. I like to sniff everywhere to see what’s been going on and figure out who’s coming and going…squirrels, possums, birds and cats all come through here and I know it. I don’t mind sharing my domain though…the more the merrier. It’s a dog’s life and I’m living it up!
