We were part of another shoot for Animal Planet this week, which makes the 3rd we have done in the past 6 months.

We shot a piece at the Las Vegas CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which is a very large show and has the latest trends in electronics.

We were on a pretty small stage with a lot of people around, and didn’t have any practice time. Having your dogs good around distracting environments, and in the presence of other dogs in close confinement, makes the shoot go much better as it did again in this case.

Connecting With Other Yorkshire Terrier Owners

Yorkshire Terriers are special and adorable. These fascinating dogs do, however, require a high degree of care. For this reason, it is important to learn as much about the breed as you possibly can, including experiences that others have had with their Yorkies. This means that you need to make it a point to connect with other Yorkshire Terrier owners.

Start finding other Yorkshire Terrier owners first through your breeder. Your breeder will know other Yorkshire Terrier owners in your local area, and even if they won’t give you those owners contact information, they will happily pass yours along if you ask them to.

Dog Training - Training Show Dogs

Over 130 different breeds compete in major dog shows, such as the Westminster in the US or Crufts in the UK. But there’s a good deal more to developing a show dog than simply acquiring a dog of one of those breeds and teaching it to sit or stay.

Within any breed there are dogs that are closer to the ‘ideal’ than others. This ‘conformation’ is an important first criteria. Conformation refers to the specific arrangement of parts - legs, tail, head, ears, etc - that determine the dog’s appearance. Since this is difficult to judge in young puppies, show dogs are often the offspring of other show dogs.

Breed Standards for the Yorkshire Terrier

If you have a Yorkshire Terrier, or plan on getting one in the near future, you know how special these energetic little dogs are. However, not all Yorkshire Terriers meet the breed standards that have been set by the American Kennel Clubs (AKC). This, however, does not make them any less purebred than those that do meet the breed standards. Meeting the breed standard for his breed means that your dog is essentially ?perfect.’ He doesn’t have any flaws. You might compare it to having the perfect human body as compared to being out of shape, or having a nose that is too big, or eyes that are set too far apart.

Yorkshire Terrier Grooming for Shows

While Yorkshire Terriers do require daily basic grooming, as well as a good weekly grooming, you may be surprised to find that those who show their Yorkshire Terriers go to great lengths when grooming their dogs for shows. Show grooming is different than regular grooming.

Good show grooming starts with good daily grooming. Make sure that you are brushing and combing your Yorkshire Terrier each and everyday. This aids in keeping his coat healthy and shinny, so that a great deal of show preparation isn’t actually necessary. He needs to be shampooed and conditioned weekly, and the day of this should coincide with the show that he will attend.

Entertaining Your Yorkshire Terrier

When you get a Yorkshire Terrier, it probably won’t occur to you that these energetic little dogs must be entertained, or they will find trouble. Are you prepared for the time that it takes to keep your Yorkshire Terrier entertained?

Start by making sure that your Yorkshire Terrier has enough quality toys. There should be toys to chase and toys to simply gnaw on. Some owners give their Yorkshire Terriers even more comfort by providing them with soft toys that they simply hug, clean, or sleep with. Try to choose toys that are well made, and those that won’t be destroyed easily.

Dog Training - Training Rescued Dogs

Normal dog training requires patience that is greater nowhere else but childrearing. Training rescued dogs takes even more.

Though sterilizing dogs - spaying (removing female organs) and neutering (removing male organs) - has been common practice for decades, birth rates continue to outpace ownership. Add to that a percentage who are lost or wander away and the problem grows larger.

The inevitable result is a large number of dogs who often end in facilities where they’re either adopted or terminated.

No dog food can cure canine kidney disease and expensive prescription diets cannot prevent kidney disease either. However, when your dog is suffering from renal failure a specialized diet can both extend his life as well as improve the quality of life. When your dog has malfunctioning kidneys the activity has dropped below 30% before you notice the clinical signs.

Visit the kidney disease dog food diet page on Best Dog Food Guide to learn more about the symptoms of canine kidney disease.

Due to complaints of sick dogs from customers - Timberwolf Organics Dog Food has voluntarily recalled two brands of dry dog food.Dakota Bison with ‘best by’ date of 12 February 2009Ocean Blue with ‘best by’ date of 20 February 2009 and 8 March 2009.

The reported symptoms in dogs include:

Dogs refusing to eat (just being smart doggies perhaps)DiarrheaVomiting

The problem is inconsistent as not every dog eating food from those dates/bag shows the symptoms and it’s not with every bag. “Better safe than sorry”, Timberwolf Organics must have thought as they have decided to pull the formulas produced with the above dates. Though initial testing has come back negative for problems it’s better to err on the side of caution. Further testing is pending results.

I am one of those people that appreciates a good watch. Being in the dog training world, I need a watch that is obviously reliable in order to get to places on time, but I also need something that is reliable.

I have a few other things that I love in a watch because of my profession and lifestyle.

I like a watch that can hanle water really well, because not only do we teach dogs to swim, but we are also around a lot of water with the hunting dogs that we teach as well. I also hate a watch that I cannot take a shower in, because I don’t like taking it on and off all the time, and have ruined quite a few watches by getting in the shower and forgetting that it was on.
