This never stops. Here are a few news releases I’ve read in the past few days.

Natural Balance Pet Foods is issuing a nationwide recall of a number of canned products manufactured by American Nutrition. This action is limited to four specific Natural Balance canned formulas: Chicken Canned Dog Formula 13 oz , Beef Canned Dog Formula 13 oz, Lamb Canned Dog Formula 13 oz, and the 3oz and 6 oz Ocean Fish Canned Cat Formulas. They did this after learning the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed rice protein concentrate used by American Nutrition contained melamine, a substance not approved for use in food.

Sierra Pet products issued a nationwide recall of all canned dog foods, all canned cat food and all dog treats sold under its “Harmony Farms” brand. The Company is taking this voluntary action after learning that the FDA has confirmed the presence of melamine, a substance not approved for use in food, in rice protein concentrate used by the contract manufacturer in the production of some of these products. No dry dog foods or cat foods are being recalled. You can contact the company at 1-800-808-1664.

I’m keeping this up for all my readers. I’ve completely switched over to homemade dog food. I’ve been making the recipes in John Miller’s book, and my dogs are much healthier, and I’m much happier, not having to research every type of dog food before I fed it to my dogs.

Here is more information for my fellow pet owners: The recall of pet foods and treats expanded today to include dog biscuits made by an Alabama company and sold by mega-retailer Wal-Mart. Sunshine Mills Inc., is recalling dog biscuits that have been made with imported Chinese wheat gluten. Further, Menu Foods expanded its recall to include “cuts and gravy”-style products made between Nov. 8 and March 6.

Del Monte Foods Co. on Friday widened its recall to Jerky Treats and Ol’ Roy and Happy Tails Beef Flavor treats covered by a recall first announced March 31 now includes some private-label snacks, packages with different expiration dates

China stated yesterday that it would be investigating allegations that a Chinese company exported tainted wheat gluten used in pet food linked to the deaths of more than a dozen cats and dogs in the United States. Apparently, Chinese wheat gluten is the problem. I hope this was not used in any human food.

More on Salmonella: TW Enterprises, the makers of American Bullie A.B. Pizzle Puppy Chews and Dog Chews, is recalling seven different types of pet chews due to concerns about salmonella contamination.

I’m continuing to feed my boys homemade dog food. I’ll start sharing some recipes in future days on this blog. I hope you guys have looked into this. I’ll say again, the HOMEMADE DOG FOOD RECIPES book has been a lifesaver for me. I have it next to my human-recipe-books on my kitchen counter, and I use it every weekend to make enough dog food for the next week. It really doesn’t take much time or effort.
