Via the contact form of Best Dog Food Guide I received the following question:
My dog is overweight by at least 15 pounds. I have cut down on his food intake and also do more walks with him. The problem is I cannot go for long walks. Two back surgeries have limited me in walking very much. He is five years and like me of course he lays down in bed a lot with me because I have to. Is there anything else I can do for him. I tried dog walkers but reliability was a big problem for me so I gave up on that idea. He is a golden lab and the best dog known. I know that if he stays this way his life expectancy will be affected. I tried weight reduction foods for him but that did not work either. Is there something else I can try?

It is curious how many people, conscientious and considerate in all other matters, never seem to think about their veterinary surgeon as a person but merely as an expert perpetually “on tap”, whose duty it is to attend to the troubles, mild or serious, of pets at any hour of the day or night. They would not dream of ringing up even a great personal friend at three in the morning for a cosy chat about the length of Fido’s toenails or to communicate the breathtaking news that he was sick the day before yesterday but, believe me, people do just this with the veterinary surgeon! Evidently sleep is considered a luxury for these busy people.

Hello everyone,
I got an interesting reader question last week and I am hoping that some of you might have some input to answer this gentleman’s question. I do not have much experience with dog breeders.
Here’s the question and I hope to get some input from you guys! Thanks.
My problem with breeders is more on the light side. Say you want a dog. I’ve had Cairn terriers, Goldens, and I’m presently looking for an English Setter. I think it’s easy enough to look around, talk to a handful of breeders, and select a decent breeder. I believe that I’ve been fortunate enough to talk to a good number of caring, knowledgable, responsible breeders. The problem for me comes about when I want any kind of commitment from the breeder about my “place in line” and my ability to select a pup from an upcoming litter.
