Many owners of dogs like the German shepherd panic when they find that their puppy's ears are not standing up. Remember that a dog's ears can take even upto a year to stand up. Sometimes, your dog may be so furry that the weight is simply too much for the ear to stand! Some owners take to 'taping' the ears to encourage them, while others shave them. 'Shaving' is recommended for long hair breeds' such as Biewer Yorkie or the Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier). We also suggest that you do not caress your dogs' ear.

In studies done by medical professionals, dog owners benefit from their pet’s presence in several ways:

1) Improved cardiovascular health:

Dog owners have been proven to have blood pressure and cholesterol lower than ordinary people. These factors reduce the chance for cardiovascular diseases. Stroking a pet has long been known to reduce blood pressure. A study from the New York State University found that these benefits continue even without the pet available. The study tested a group of stockbrokers with hypertension. They concluded that just being a pet-owner can lower blood pressure.

I just read an article about new dog treats and the title made me smile, so I used it for this blog post. The New Age trend seems to have entered the world of dog treats. Who could have predicted this? After reading about Meditation Classes for Dogs (oh yes, the humanization trend is heavily growing), I now stumbled upon these holistic Zen-themed treats for dogs. There are 5 kinds of treats, all with different purposes:

‘Agile’ contains glucosamine HCL for better hip and joint movement‘Peace’ designed for adult ADHD or otherwise overactive dogs, because sometimes a dog just needs to chill a little‘Beauty’ to improve skin and coat condition and also for a fresh doggy breath‘Energy’ well… this is of course for active dogs. Not just dogs but animals in general have long been recognized as having a positive effect on the healing process. Dogs, especially, have a calming effect.

These dogs help people cope with emotional issues, offer physical contact, invoke pleasant memories and they divert a person’s focus from the problems of the day. That’s why they’ve been used to great success as helpers for those people who are in therapy. Dogs are specially trained for their jobs of helping to take care of the sick, the elderly or the infirm.
