Connecting With Other Yorkshire Terrier Owners

Yorkshire Terriers are special and adorable. These fascinating dogs do, however, require a high degree of care. For this reason, it is important to learn as much about the breed as you possibly can, including experiences that others have had with their Yorkies. This means that you need to make it a point to connect with other Yorkshire Terrier owners.

Start finding other Yorkshire Terrier owners first through your breeder. Your breeder will know other Yorkshire Terrier owners in your local area, and even if they won’t give you those owners contact information, they will happily pass yours along if you ask them to.

Here are the answers to just a few of the questions most commonly posed by dog owners.

1. What supplies do I need to have on hand before I bring my new puppy home?

The first thing you’ll need is a travel crate for your dog’s trip home. You’ll also need to buy some high quality puppy food and bowls for food and water. Your vet, breeder or shelter personnel can tell you which brands of food are the best. Other items you’ll need to get in advance of the new puppy’s arrival are: an adjustable collar, a leash, toys and bedding. Don’t forget to make an appointment with your veterinarian for your puppy’s first check-up!

I recently received an email from the American Kennel Club in response to their Survey for Mixed Breed Dog Owners. The American Kennel Club may soon offer more programs, activities and events for mixed breed dogs and owners. The survey asks a number of questions about dog ownership and activities of interest for both purebred and mixed breed dog owners. There is also a section of the survey that will ask your opinion of current dog legislation, i.e. breeding restrictions and breed specific legislation. The survey is simple and only takes a few minutes. I have personally taken the survey and encourage other dog owners to do so as well. The email is below.
