Yorkshire Terrier Grooming for Shows
While Yorkshire Terriers do require daily basic grooming, as well as a good weekly grooming, you may be surprised to find that those who show their Yorkshire Terriers go to great lengths when grooming their dogs for shows. Show grooming is different than regular grooming.
Good show grooming starts with good daily grooming. Make sure that you are brushing and combing your Yorkshire Terrier each and everyday. This aids in keeping his coat healthy and shinny, so that a great deal of show preparation isn’t actually necessary. He needs to be shampooed and conditioned weekly, and the day of this should coincide with the show that he will attend.

Feeding Your Yorkshire Terrier
You wouldn’t think that such small dogs had such special dietary needs, but Yorkshire Terriers really do have special nutritional needs, and they are indeed very picky eaters.
Most Yorkshire Terrier owners do not purchase commercial dog food for their beloved pets. Instead, these special dogs are fed the same foods that people eat. Favorite foods include chicken and beef, as well as a variety of green vegetables, milk, and bread. All foods should be free of preservatives, organic if possible, and all meats should be thoroughly cooked.

Entertaining Your Yorkshire Terrier
When you get a Yorkshire Terrier, it probably won’t occur to you that these energetic little dogs must be entertained, or they will find trouble. Are you prepared for the time that it takes to keep your Yorkshire Terrier entertained?
Start by making sure that your Yorkshire Terrier has enough quality toys. There should be toys to chase and toys to simply gnaw on. Some owners give their Yorkshire Terriers even more comfort by providing them with soft toys that they simply hug, clean, or sleep with. Try to choose toys that are well made, and those that won’t be destroyed easily.

Dressing Up Your Yorkshire Terrier
Many people who are not knowledgeable about the breed simply cannot tell one Yorkshire Terrier apart from another Yorkshire Terrier of the same age and size, with the same haircut. Although Yorkshire Terrier lovers around the world can easily tell the difference between two seemingly identical dogs, owners do enjoy dressing their Yorkshire Terriers up a bit.
Most Yorkshire Terrier owners do a topknot on top of the Yorkies head, and put a bow on it. This is acceptable for male and female Yorkshire Terriers, and it helps to hold their long hair up out of their face, and out of their food. Therefore, it has a utility purpose other than just looking cute. You should have a variety of hair bows for your Yorkie, and put a fresh bow on his topknot, or just above both of his ears, each day.

Elena's love affair with her Scottish Terriers continues as she introduces to us Dussia, Patrick's Friend.
This sketch is done with a pencil. It occurs to me, that scottish terriers lend themselves very well to pencil sketches. Notice how the lines mesh with each other to create the picture with minimal shading.

The beautiful daughter of Donald Trump owns a Yorkshire Terrier. They have a very playful nature, and are the second most popular breed in the US after the Labrador Retriever. They are not noted for 'Alpha' male behavior and relate very well with other dogs. This is an advantage if you are looking for a second or third dog for your home.

The Kerry Blue Terrier Dog
The Blue Kerry terrier pet dog is one of the most mysterious breeds of terriers. This is because of the fact that even though the breed has been known by the Irish for at leas 150 years, nobody really knows where they came from or how they were first bred.
Various legends are told in order to explain the appearance of the Kerry blue terrier breed. Some say that the peasants bred them for hunting purposes since noblemen monopolized the use of wolfhounds. Thus, noblemen hunted with their wolfhounds while peasants poached with their Kerries.

The Wire Fox Terrier has a strong, athletic body and a short, wiry coat with a soft undercoat. Although he is very much the same as the Smooth Fox Terrier in behavior, the Wire Fox Terrier does show some interesting differences. Similar to the Smooth, he is feisty, lively, and very independent, but tends to be a slightly slower learner than the Smooth, perhaps because of his more distractible nature. He is intelligent, cheerful, and gets along well with children. He is a great ratter and makes a wonderful pet. He has a very high prey drive and is more dog-aggressive than the Smooth. This dog is perhaps the most combative terrier aside from the Bedlington. He is wary of strangers, makes a good watchdog, and tends to defend himself if provoked. He likes to bark and dig, sometimes incessantly and should not be left in the yard for a long period of time. Training should begin early and be consistent. Though he is an intelligent dog, some commands such as the down and come may be difficult to teach to this willful and stubborn breed.

We wanted to share with you one of our recent success stories. Jackson was recently trained and rehabilitated by Linda Taylor, who works with our clients in the Charlotte, Pineville, Matthews, Huntersville, Mooresville, and the Lake Norman area. You can see the results of our training methods and behavior modification programs in this video of Jackson.
I first met the little dog at his home in Mooresville, NC. His owner had contacted me regarding his aggressive behavior towards her and mostly towards her husband. The Jack Russell was very aggressive towards the husband, growling and biting whenever he got tired of being petted or tired of being disciplined. The owners were told by a dog trainer in Mooresville, NC that the dog could not be “fixed” and that they needed to put him to sleep He handed them a remote collar and ended the session (without even teaching them how to use the tool). I evaluated the dog and decided he could be “fixed” with time and care. His owners would need to change the way they interacted with the dog in order for them to all live in harmony.
