I wonder how dog owners buy dog toys for their beloved furry friends. Honestly, I never really paid attention whether a toy is safe for a dog or not. The primary aim has always been that my dog should enjoy playing with it. One of the most popular games is "throw and fetch". A tennis ball will do it. Yet, there are several custom designed dog balls out there. Would you believe that some of those toys can kill your dog?

I recently stumbled upon a fellow dog fancier's blog - EuroDogTraining Blog - and read an article "Dangerous toy".

Most Pet owners assume that just because a dog toy was purchased from a pet store, it is automatically safe for their dog. But this is not the case, as several toys are made for dogs of certain sizes and with certain play/chewing styles, and some toys can be dangerous for dogs if they are not properly supervised.

Toys provide two important roles for your Pit Bull puppy. The first role is to help stimulate your dog both physically and mentally. The second is to prevent him from tearing down your home. Pit Bulls, or any dog for that matter, are less likely to destroy items in your house if given their own toys that they can play with.

Pit Bulls love playing with balls, especially big, colorful bouncing balls. They also enjoy a large and partially deflated ball. Hard rubber balls are good for tough-playing puppies. Avoid using small balls such as jack balls or golf balls because dogs tend to inhale or swallow them. Soft rubber balls are also not recommended because they can easily be chewed to small pieces and then swallowed.
