I just read an article about new dog treats and the title made me smile, so I used it for this blog post. The New Age trend seems to have entered the world of dog treats. Who could have predicted this? After reading about Meditation Classes for Dogs (oh yes, the humanization trend is heavily growing), I now stumbled upon these holistic Zen-themed treats for dogs. There are 5 kinds of treats, all with different purposes:
‘Agile’ contains glucosamine HCL for better hip and joint movement‘Peace’ designed for adult ADHD or otherwise overactive dogs, because sometimes a dog just needs to chill a little‘Beauty’ to improve skin and coat condition and also for a fresh doggy breath‘Energy’ well… this is of course for active dogs. So when it’s time to relax you just give them the ‘Peace’ treat, hmm…. wouldn’t it be convenient to have an on-off switch to your dog (via treats)?

While we all enjoy treating our dogs to a nice dog cookie or some human food once in a while, is it really all that good for them? For example, it is well known that dogs are allergic to chocolate and therefore as dog owners we avoid giving them chocolate, or leaving chocolate in a position they can access. But what about other foods? Each dog’s diet is specific to itself, but sometimes there are general rules for certain foods, like chocolate. So is giving a dog a dog biscuit detrimental to a dog’s health? Or giving them a piece of cheese, or some vegetables, or a piece of bread? Every dog will react individually to different foods, but keep in mind that while dog food may be recommended by a vet, dog cookies and “people” food usually aren’t. So keep an eye on what’s going into your dog’s mouths. No one wants to see their dog sick.

Halloween is coming up and I’m getting lots of treats for my tricks! These are very tasty dog treats from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. This place has a lot of great treats for humans but this is just for us dogs. They are dog cookies dipped in a white chocolate that has no cocoa or caffeine, which makes it safe for us pups. (Chocolate is toxic to dogs.) I love them but they are a super-special-once-in-a-while-treat.

Allergic reactions are usually directed against proteins that are recognized by the immune system. Since this protein needs to be of a certain size to be recognized, the industry has put this knowledge to use.
When hydrolyzing proteins the parts become so small that these are too small to be recognized by the immune system. Anallergic dog can be fed food containing hydrolyzed proteins and won’t show an allergic reaction (providing no whole proteins are present in the food).

Proper Use of Dog Treats
If you are a dog owner, your dog is likely one of the most important beings in your life. To reward it, you probably provided it with Dog Treats almost regularly. But different Dog Treats are good for different situations. Rewarding your dog with the best treat for the situation is a good way to keep your dog alert and satisfied.
Training
When training your dog, the best kinds of treats are small, easy to chew treats that your dog can swallow quickly. There is a lot of behavioral evidence to suggest that it does not matter how large a treat is, a reward for learning a trick is a reward. So there is no reason to fill your dog up on treats too quickly, since the size of the treat does not matter when it comes to how well a dog will learn a trick.

Yesterday we went to the Three Dog Bakery for no particular reason other than I am a very good dog. It’s true, no one ever says “Spencer, you are a BAD DOG.” Nope, not me. I am a good dog all the time. So we picked out some very yummy treats for me. There are 2 pup cakes, peanut butter bars and a doggie donut. Mmmm. They look delicious, don’t they?
